B is for ‘Light it up BLUE.’
Do you remember Raymond Babbitt “Qantas. Qantas never crashed” in Rain Man? Or Christopher Francis Boone “I know all the countries of the world and their capital cities and every prime number upto 7,507” in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time?
They both had one thing in common; they suffered from a kind of autism popularly known as savant syndrome.
What is Autism? What causes it? How can it be diagnosed?
There are answers for these questions but more often than not these questions are not even asked, for lack of awareness. This is sad, because early and intensive intervention can bring about a huge change in the condition of the patient and in some cases even cure it. But for this to happen, awareness is imperative.
“Light It Up BLUE” is a unique global initiative to help raise awareness about Autism. Iconic landmarks around the world will “Light It Up BLUE” to show their support.
This year’s Light It Up Blue participants include the Empire State Building, Niagara Falls, Aspen Mountain, Brazil’s Christ the Redeemer statue, Rockefeller Center, Sydney Opera House, the New York Stock Exchange, the Paris Stock Exchange, and the Great Buddha at Hyogo, Kobe, Japan.
In India Action for Autism with Support of National Trust are lighting up “BLUE” at the Red Fort, Purana Qilla, Jantar Mantar, Qutub Minar, Safdarjung Tomb and Humayun’s Tomb.
So, will you light up BLUE, too, this year?
And if there’s nothing else you do, at least have a BLUEberry cheesecake.
